Maruo Clothing (a predecessor of the current BIG JOHN) is the first company that made jeans in Japan.
They started to import and sew jeans in 1958.
In 1964 they got 50 rolls of denim fabric of Canton Textile Mills (a company in the United States), and started to make jeans by sewing that real thick denim from the following year.

The first model of jeans made of denim of Canton Textile Mills is on display at the Museum of Japanese Jeans (on the premises of Cafe WAGEN).
